Today the Church centers its devotions on The Most Holy Trinity commonally called Trinity Sunday. The Holy Trinity is a mystery you can never fully grasp with our human minds but fundamental to Christian belief.
As Christians we declare our faith in God who is three in one and one in three. We use these words – this formular at Baptism while blessing, in Absolution and at the start of our prayers.
We should always be seeking to understand more about our faith even in these difficult times separated from the Church its Sacraments and one another but even now we are conscious that the unity we share that unity which is so clearly seen in the Holy Trinity, the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit in which we see the great holiness of God. But God,s holiness and his down- to – earthness cannot be separated from one another anymore than you can separate the unity of Father Son and the Holy Spirit. For our faith is Incarnational it is about God’s holiness being born in human form and so identifying with us. We know God as Father Son and Holy Spirit present in word and sacrament on our world and in one another. To know God is to have seen something of his activity in the world, in pure worship, and in the lives of others. His unity and his presence is constant and often surprising. It would seem that Nicodemus who we hear about in today’s gospel never told people of his new faith while Jesus was living but according to John he came with Joseph of Aramathea to lay Jesus body to rest. As we praise and acknowledge the glorious Trinity we are reminded by this that it is never too late to offer to God the humble device of love.
